When Things Just Aren’t Running Right

Sometimes we all run into computer problems we just can’t seem to get a handle on. We know things aren’t quite right, but we are not sure what it is.

Obviously, we should make sure our firewall and antivirus programs are up to date and running properly. And, of course, we should check to make sure we don’t have dozens of spyware programs unknowingly running on our computer.

However, if none of those turn up any problems, where do we turn next?

One great free site we discovered several years ago was PC Pitstop.

PC Pitstop will scan your computer for free right online, notify you of your computer’s current status and make recommendations to improve performance. It is a great place to start troubleshooting.

Another great site we have recently discovered will sift through your computer’s registry to repair problems and minimize application seizures and crashes.

This program is especially helpful after you have had your computer for some time, installing and uninstalling software. All kinds of loose ends get left behind in your registry, slowing your computer to a crawl and making it unstable.

We had over 500 unnecessary entries in our registry the first time we ran this program! No wonder our computer had slowed down so much.
